Buffy Biernesser has a true love for the game of soccer and has played and coached at all levels. She is a Western Pennsylvania native and a pioneer of the women’s soccer movement in the region and throughout the United States.
Buffy Biernesser played goalkeeper for Fox Chapel High School, where she was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2004. Buffy was an ALL-WPIAL selection in 1986 in 1987 as well as the team captain for 1987. Buffy was the first female goalkeeper to make the Eastern Regional ODP Team for the US Women’s National Team Program in 1985 and 1986. Buffy loved her experience with the Regional Team and National Team Program and is very proud of how far the women’s program has evolved.
After high school, Buffy continued her career at Bethany College, where she served as an all-conference player and team captain for two of her years. After college, Buffy served as the Region 1 Goalkeeping assistant coach for the Olympic Development Team.
She is an active coach and clinician working with individuals, local colleges, high school teams, classic organizations, and ODP programs. Several of the players Buffy has coached have gone on to play in nationally recognized Division 1,2 and 3 programs.
Buffy was the head coach at Trinity high school for 13 years and a winning coach with the Victory Soccer Club. Following that Buffy was an Assistant Coach/Goalkeeping at Norwin High. She also served as the Beadling Soccer Club Director of Goalkeeping from 2009 to 2018, coaching both the men and women. She returned to resume the Goalkeeping Director position in 2020.
